- understanding the changes"
Noel Griese, editor of the
Southern Review of Books and Energy Pipeline News newsletters published in Atlanta, Ga., ha s
three degrees in English and journalism from the University of Wisconsin, where
he was elected to both the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.
During his career, he has been a newspaper reporter and editor, a radio
newscaster, a U.S. Army officer, a journalism professor at the Universities of
Wisconsin and Georgia and a public relations executive in the telecommunication
and petroleum industries. The author of 17
nonfiction books and numerous articles, he is president and CEO of Anvil
Publishers, which is currently marketing $16.5 million in books and $8.5 million
in literary properties. In addition to brokering remainder books and manuscripts, Anvil
offers for sale to larger publishers a number of small publishing houses and
other properties.

literary agent, The Strothman Agency, LLC, Boston, "The road to the book deal: Getting an agent."
Lauren E. MacLeod
joined the Strothman Agency after graduating cum laude from Emerson College
with a BFA in writing, literature and publishing. Lauren's primary
interests
are middle grade novels, young adult fiction and nonfiction, as well as highly
polished literary fiction and narrative nonfiction. Lauren works closely with
the agency and its clients to create effective digital platforms and
capitalize on the many opportunities presented by social networking. Recent
sales include: Real Mermaids Don't Wear Toe Rings by Hilhne Boudreau
(Sourcebooks/Jabberwocky), The Newsoul Trilogy by Jodi Meadows
(HarperCollins/Katherine Tegen Books) and The Widening Gyre: A
Journey Across a Melting Landscape by Christopher White (St. Martin's).
Lauren will walk writers through the Does and
Don'ts of the query process and answer the questions writers have about
agents:

She will then open the floor for specific
questions on agents and the querying process. This session is appropriate for
writers of fiction, nonfiction and children's literature.
Nina Anderson, publishing house CEO,
author of 17 books and commercial jet pilot, "What a publisher advises writers
to do to assure the success of their book before they ever pick up a pen."
Nina Anderson is a specialist in
performance nutrition certified by the an International Sports S cience
Association. A nationally acclaimed researcher, author, television and radio
personality, Nina has reached thousands of listeners.
A retired corporate jet pilot, she has flown Gulfstreams, Citations and
the Hawker. The last is the airplane in which she set the action in
her novel 2012 Airborne Prophesy. She has been an active researcher in
the alternative health field for over 20 years, and has co-authored 17 books
including Worse Than Global Warming, Atlantis Today - The USA,
Low Carb and Beyond, Cancer Disarmed, ADD, The Natural
Approach, Super Nutrition for Dogs n’ Cats, Nutritional Leverage
for Great Golf and Analyzing Sports Drinks. Nina has a BA from
Monmouth College. Her television credits alone include appearances on Week-End
Today, NBC N.Y.; WNYT, Albany N.Y.; Vision Quest, Chicago, Ill.; WTNH, New
Haven Conn.; and many others.
In addition to her main topic, advice from a
publisher, Nina will cover how to look at your book as a product (especially
if you are writing a memoir), and will draw on the The Secrets of
Successful Inventors by John Hobbs as a model for looking at a book like a
product.
Barry T. Kerrigan, CEO of Desktop Miracles
Inc., a book design house based in Stowe, Vermont, "Successful self-publishing

Barry T.
Kerrigan is the president and
founder of Desktop Miracles, a book design and production studio born on April
Fools Day 1994. Barry has been involved in book
design
and production since 1989, and has been involved with more than 1000 projects.
His experience includes corporate publishing accounts with several Fortune 100
companies, as well as setting up and starting the entire in-house prepress and
typesetting department for Word Publishing, at the time the world’s leading
Christian publishing house, and a division of ABC/CapCities. Barry is a
respected expert and frequent speaker on book design and production at
publishing seminars nationwide, an active participant in several national and
regional publishing associations, and a regular exhibitor at publishing
conferences and trade shows nationwide. He is the author of Book Design &
Production: The Ultimate Guide to Editorial, Design, Production, and
Manufacturing, an upcoming release from Laughlin & Monroe Press., along
with several smaller ebooks available at
DesktopMiracles.com.
In his presentation
"Successful self-publishing and mistakes to avoid," Barry will discuss common
errors that stymie authors from greater success, especially in regard to
design errors that prevent self-published works from being reviewed favorably
by leading publications that drive book sales.
