Instructors

Peter Bowerman, author of several books on making a living as an author and publisher, including “The Well-Fed Writer” and “The Well-Fed Self-Publisher.” Topic: “The Well-Fed Self-Publisher: How to Turn One Book into a Full-Time Living"

Landing a publisher has never been harder. Even when you do, count on anemic royalty rates, 18 to 24 months to publication, and giving up the rights to your book. And you’ll still be expected to do most of the marketing yourself! Yet, thanks to the Internet, self-publishing has become easier, more viable and more potentially lucrative than ever before. Join Peter Bowerman, successful self-publisher of the Well-Fed titles as he shares his proven strategies for production, promotion and publicity that yielded 60,000+ copies of his books in print and a full-time living for eight-plus years.

Peter Bowerman, an Atlanta-based freelance commercial writer, is the author of the 2000 award-winning Book-of-the-Month Club selection, The Well-Fed Writer, and its 2005 companion volume, TWFW: Back For Seconds (www.wellfedwriter.com), both self-published, and both how-to “standards” on lucrative commercial freelancing. His commercial client list has included Coca-Cola, BellSouth, IBM, UPS, American Express, Mercedes-Benz and the Woodruff Arts Center. He has published over 250 articles and editorials, leads seminars on writing and is a professional coach on both commercial freelancing business start-up and self-publishing. In 2006, Bowerman chronicled his self-publishing success (50,000 copies of his two books in print, and a full-time living for five-plus years!) in his third book, The Well-Fed Self-Publisher: How to Turn One Book into a Full-Time Living (www.wellfedsp.com).

Angela K. Durden, author of children’s and business books, editor of a new anthology of business essays, publisher, and businesswoman.

“Only a fool has himself as his editor.” You’ve finally finished your book and you know it is ready for publication. But what will the paying public think of your baby? This workshop will discuss the problems and pitfalls of self-editing, the level of quality of editor to seek, benefits of hiring an editor, different types of editing, styles of editing, and how many times a book should be edited. Explaining his presentation, David said, "The sea change in the publishing industry is going to open new doors for fiction and non-fiction authors alike." Along with partners Tara Coyt and Anna Foote, David has entered this new realm and will discuss the ups and downs, challenges and opportunities of creating a publishing house..

Ahmad Meradji, CEO, Apex Book Manufacturing, "How To Get Your Self-Published Book Manufactured."

Ahmad Meradji has been involved in digital printing from its inception at Xerox, providing customers with onsite and offsite digital printing. He held various management positions at Xerox, including  the oversight of Internal document printing. He was one of the individuals involved in setting up the first digital book printing models at Xerox, later serving as a consultant in digital document printing and production. He will discuss a brief history of digital printing and identify the benefits of printing in digital format.
